Making a great one-minute film, that’s TUFF!

 

 

The Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF), the only festival of its kind in North America, is a 10-day long public film festival that reaches over 1.3 million subway commuters daily.

 

 

TUFF is looking for the best one-minute silent films from across Canada and around the world. Over $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the winning films. Artist fees of $100 will be payed to every film that’s selected by our jury to screen on the TTC and on the TUFF website.

 

 

The festival runs from September 10 - 19, 2010, at the same time as TIFF. Film are presented on the network of 270 subway platform screens inside the TTC, and featured on the new TUFF website, where people can vote for the Viewer’s Choice award.

 

 

Films are selected by a guest jury, with the top films chosen by a special Guest Judge. The TUFF 2010 Jury includes Min Sook Lee, Jorge Lozano, Kathleen Mullen, Sarah Robayo Sheridan, Haema Sivanesan, and Michael Zryd.

TSV Pitch Award

 

Need support to make your TUFF film? Trinity Square Video (TSV) is offering seven filmmakers a complimentary TSV membership and up to $600 of in-kind support towards both the production and post-production of their TUFF movie through the Trinity Square Video Pitch Award. The seven selected TSV Pitch Award winners will be screened in their own program during TUFF. Filmmakers are invited to send a one or two paragraph pitch that describes their silent one-minute film idea, along with a CV, to:

McHugh Award For Emerging Filmmakers - $2,500 cash. The winning film will take an inspired view of the city of Toronto, reflecting its unique qualities. To qualify for the award, candidates must live or work in the Greater Toronto Area (416/905 area code) and have completed, and publicly screened, between one and six independent film or video works outside of school. The winning film will be selected from the finalists for the seven thematic categories and be awarded by the Guest Judge. Sponsored by the City of Toronto through the TFTO.

 

 

Most Ambitious Film by a Female Director - awarded to Ontario-based female director. Award includes a complementary one-year membership to WIFT-T, a $1,200.00 WIFT-T programming pass, plus a $1,500 equipment rental credit and 15% rental discount (good for 1 year) from Videoscope. Sponsored by WIFT-T and Videoscope.

 

 

The Audience Choice Award, for the film that receives the most online votes during the 2010 festival The award includes a complimentary reception and screening at the Drake's Underground to support the launch of a new film, and two night’s accommodation at the hotel. The event will be featured on the Drake's website and in their bi-monthly AKE newsletter. Total in-kind value is $4,000, sponsored by the Drake Hotel.

 

 

TUFF SUBMISSION DEADLINE: July 15, 2010

 

Submit your film before June 1st and avoid the $10 entry fee. Fees rise to $15 on July 1st.
