Revisiting Freshwater — Artist Q&A with Olivia Wilyman
This summer, Trinity Square Video presented Freshwater, a quietly powerful exhibition by illustrator and stop-motion animator Olivia Wilyman. Blending puppetry with hand-painted 2D animation, the film reimagines a childhood memory to explore themes of identity, transformation, and self-reflection.
Now that the exhibition has ended, we’re sharing our Artist Session Q&A video, where Olivia discusses the inspiration behind Freshwater, the challenges of building and animating her handmade puppets, and the layered symbolism behind the film’s title.
