Weaving Workshop with Rolla Tahir
January 31 | 1:00–4:00 PM
At Trinity Square Video Gallery (TSV),
401 Richmond St W., Suite 121, Toronto
Join artist Rolla Tahir for a hands-on weaving workshop that explores her distinctive method of weaving yarn with 35mm analogue film strips. Rolla’s weaving draws inspiration from Sadu, a traditional Bedouin weaving practice from the Middle East known for its durability, geometric patterns, and use in shelter-making and everyday life.
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to basic weaving techniques while learning how weaving can function as both craft and storytelling—connecting past and present, tradition and experimentation. Rolla’s practice bridges textile traditions with her background in analogue filmmaking, exploring memory, sustainability, and the transformation of materials through repetition and care.
All tables, weaving materials, and light refreshments will be provided. No prior experience is required—this workshop is open to beginners and those interested in learning through hands-on, material-based practice.
This workshop is free but you must RSVP to attend. (Limited space)
A $5.00 donation is recommended to support Trinity Square Video’s public programming.
This in-person workshop invites artists, makers, and community members to slow down, learn together, and engage creatively through making.
